The value of the evaluation card: the history of Elisa Cugliandro

What emotion does it feel to receive an evaluation sheet for the first time?? Why this editorial process is so important? Our Elisa Cugliandro tells us about it

The dancer who ran away from love it is the third book that Elisa has entrusted to us at Scrivantes team. This time, But, instead of starting with editing right away, our author followed the Scrivantes path in its most updated form and started from evaluation sheet. How it went? Let's find out in this interview.

Per The dancer who ran away from love you have relied on the complete Scrivantes path, starting from the evaluation sheet rather than editing. How did you find this new work organization??

Big time, you're getting me used to it well! In particular, I was really surprised by the evaluation sheet: excellent and meticulous work, which paved the way for my revision and, consequentially, easier editing.

How emotional you felt when you read your evaluation sheet for the first time?

I felt satisfied, both learning the strengths and weaknesses of the novel: with the strengths I had confirmation that the work was worthy of publication, while reading the weak points I finally understood what was wrong with that same novel... At a certain point you need someone to tell you how things really are, and where you need to intervene, otherwise you won't improve.

How the idea for the novel was born The dancer who ran away from love?

In the 2012 I experienced a somewhat… turbulent spring, following the drafting of Close your eyes (which he would later become Love provides). In October of that same year I wrote down the very first draft of Escape from love, a kind of dress rehearsal for The dancer who ran away from love.

I started from a first image, that of an insecure girl who dances masked in a club without even her sisters recognizing her! The rest came out smoothly in a short time.

After the unfortunate experience of 2019 – a crowdfunding ended with copies distributed but not published – and a third place in a subsequent competition, I decided to give this story a real chance.

You have already trusted our team for the romance series Love provides. What made you turn to us again??

The enormous progress I made as an author with that double job. I thought I was safe with you, even though I would have had to roll up my sleeves a lot. It was worth it: I am certain of the quality of the work we have offered to readers.

What advice would you give to aspiring authors who want to write a book?

It is important to start with a fundamental question: “because I want to write?”. First of all, you need to clarify to yourself why you want to undertake this path. And after fourteen years of career, in which I collected every editorial failure possible, I feel like I can give this other advice: don't be afraid to dare, but treasure the falls. They are precisely the ones that will make you grow.

You're already on your third romance: what do you love about this genre?

I love that overwhelming load of emotions about romance, but also the possibility of addressing other important themes beyond the classic love story. In the end, I love romantic settings, maybe from the province, and not too exotic.

What feedback have you received from readers regarding your previous romances??

In general I received positive opinions, for which I am very grateful: I know I have an atypical way of proceeding, inserting unusual details such as unpublished songs into the books, diary excerpts, puns, so I'm glad you liked the story. Someone I trusted also provided me with constructive criticism, which I kept in mind when reviewing The dancer who ran away from love.

We know you have a volcanic mind, so the last question is obligatory: What new writing projects are you working on??

Oh, I have many open projects! Much will depend on how things go this year, and it's all unpredictable at the moment. Maybe I'll fish another novel out of the drawer, maybe going back to science fiction, or I'll stick to romance, maybe…
